The story of the Sourdough Fairy 

From the quarantine soup kitchen to my grandmother's inheritance.

Hi! I'm Bianka, the creator of the Sausage Fairy site.

Many people ask where the name comes from. I did not invent it, it was a gift from my sister. When I started baking, she was one of my most enthusiastic tasters. She had previously struggled a lot with her stomach bloating from yeast baked goods and feeling heavy after meals. Then she tasted my first sourdough breads and pastries... and the complaints went away! No bloating, no heavy feeling, just the pleasure of the taste. One day he looked at me and said: "You're the SourdoughFairy because you worked magic in the kitchen!" And so the name was born, and with it my mission.

How did it start?

Like many others, I took refuge in the kitchen during Covid's closure. I made my first sourdough based on the Baker's videos, and after the first loaf of bread that went well, there was no stopping me. I completely fell in love with the process. From that day on, our family forgot store-bought baked goods and yeast was banished from the kitchen.

Past and Future on a plate

I am not a baker or a cook. I am an enthusiastic housewife who experiments with her "common sense" and her heart. My roots of knowledge go deep:

  • The knowledge of Mama: 

    I'm learning a lot from my 83-year-old Mum, who has been cooking since she was 13 and has eight decades of experience in her movements.

  • The legacy of Great Grandma: 

    We recently found a real treasure at home: my great-grandmother's nearly 100-year-old handwritten recipe booklet. 

    From this booklet, I will bring you old treasures, family recipes from Vas and Zala County, which I will try to bring into the modern age.

Why has this page been created?

When I started, I was lost in a sea of information. I had to hunt it all down from separate pages, I didn't understand the jargon and often felt like giving up. I wish you wouldn't go down this bumpy road. Here, on the Cake Fairy site, you'll find everything you need to get started and progress in one place - simply, clearly, in "human language".

Although the main character is sourdough, I'm always looking for something new: I love testing new kitchen appliances and modernising old recipes to show that tradition and progress can go hand in hand.
